18 Day Gorilla Trekking & Game Drives-Uganda

Day 1: Pick Up and tour to Ngamba Island on Lake Victoria in Uganda.
Ngamba Island, on Lake Victoria is a Sanctuary to a good number of orphaned chimpanzees rescued from around Uganda. Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust, an NGO, is responsible for all aspects of the sanctuary at Ngamba Island and is actively involved in the conservation education of local communities. Day 2: Trip to Jinja the source of the great River Nile
On day 2 after your breakfast, you can take part in the morning chimpanzee feeding at the Ngamba Island’s chimpanzee sanctuary. Thereafter you will take a boat ride back to the main land and proceed to Jinja.

The world’s longest river, the river Nile starts in Jinja. Jinja has increasingly become a popular destination for backpackers for its white water rafting, body surfing, kayaking lessons and guess what, you can secure a video or dvd of the experience afterwards. You will have your lunch enroute with reward sightings of the flora and fauna plus an exciting detour in the Mabira forest where you will enjoy spontaneous views of the bird life and monkeys and butterflies on this forest walk.

Day 3: Full day Whitewater rafting on the River Nile
After an early breakfast you will set off for the most exciting adventure in Jinja on the Nile River. This rafting experience will take you through the magnificent 8 rapids on the River Nile with a scenic view of the hundreds of bird species along the nile. You will then return to your lodge for dinner and overnight. Wild waters lodge / Jinja Nile Resort

Day 4: Boat Ride on the Nile and Safari to Murchison Falls National park Uganda
After breakfast on day 4, you will have a boat ride on the Nile to where Lake Victoria and the River Nile meet. You will have and lots of opportunities to take pictures and interact with the jolly fisherman communities. After your lunch, we’ll drive to Murchison falls National Park. Dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge. Paraa lodge is located in the north west of Uganda over looking one of nature’s best kept secrets, the River Nile

Day 5: Game drive at the top of the falls – Murchison Falls
On day 5 after your breakfast, you will embark on a morning game drive at the magnificent top of the Murchison falls. You will spot the early riser bird species like the shoe-bill/whale headed stork, red throat bee eaters and many more. After your lunch, you can have a launch cruise along the Nile River in a serene boat cruise. Expect to see hippos, crocodiles, oribi, hartebeest, buffaloes and the wonderful falls. Later that day we shall transfer for dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge

Day 6: Semliki National Game Park Uganda
Semuliki National Park lies across the Semliki Valley on the western side of the Rwenzori mountain ranges. The national park is part of the great Ituri Forest of the Congo Basin which is one of Africa’s most ancient and bio-diverse forests; among the few to survive the last ice age, 12-18,000 years ago. The ituri forest is also home to numerous Central African wildlife species, and the local population includes a Batwa pygmy community that originated from the Ituri. As a result, this park provides a taste of Central Africa without having to leave Uganda. The park is rich in primates, and expects to see the black and white colobus monkeys, central African red colobus, blue monkey, red tailed monkey, de Brazza’s monkey, vervet monkey, grey cheeked mangabey, baboon and many more. Take an opportunity, one of its kind in all Uganda’s park in a night game drive, you will spot the nocturnal primates besides the nightjars that are rare during the day. Day 7: Bird Watching in the Semliki Game Park
After your breakfast on day 7 you will go birding in one of the richest areas for birds in Africa and with some of the very best forest birding adventure. Look out for species like the spot breasted ibis, Red Thighed Sparrow Hawk, Crested francolin and Helmet Guinea fowl, Broad -billed Roller, Green Wood-hoopoe, African Moustached Warbler, Marsh Tchagra, Violet-backed, the rapacious Red-necked Falcon and the local Cabani’s.


Later you will enjoy nocturnal bird watching on the geothermal Hot springs at Sempaya and you should be able to see the crepuscular Flecked Night jar, Black Shoulder Nightjar, African Wood and many more.

Day 8: Kibale Forest National Park in Uganda
On day 8 we will drive to Fort portal immediately after your breakfast giving you first hand views of the traditional homesteads and farms on your way to Kibale Forest national park. Upon your arrival in the park, you will take a guided forest walk to explore the Bunyaruguru crater region and the national park’s primate species like the Grey Cheeked Mangabey, Red Colobus Monkey, L’hoests, Black And White Colobus Monkey, and Vervet Monkey.

Day 9: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale forest national park
Day 9 is when we track down the chimpanzees in their natural habitat in the tropical Kibale forest. First, we report to the park headquarters with your packed lunch immediately after your breakfast where you will be briefed about the chimp trackers code of conduct as instructed by Uganda Wildlife Authority. Kibale forest national park is home to 13 Primate Species including almost 1,500 Chimpanzees and arguably offers you the best chimpanzee tracking experience in East Africa.

Day 10: The world famous Queen Elizabeth National Park
We leave Kibale forest national park on day 10 shortly after your breakfast to visit the most popular wildlife conservation area with a stunning location on the rift valley floor between Lakes Edward and George.

At Queen Elizabeth national park, you will enjoy a game drive immediately as you enter the park where you may spot the Elephants, Buffalos; Uganda Kob and with some luck you may also spot the Hyena, Lions, Leopard and perhaps the Giant Forest Hog. After your lunch, we will take you on an afternoon game viewing launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel where you will enjoy more wildlife sightings of species like the Hippopotamuses, Waterbucks, Crocodiles and a variety of Water Birds like the black bee- eater, several species of falcons and the raptors.

Retire for your dinner and overnight at Jacana/Mweya safari lodge later in the evening

Day 11: Launch cruise around Katwe Crater region and transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park
On day 11, we will drive to the spectacular field of extinct volcanic Katwe explosion craters. You will view the gorgeous Kitagata Lake and the enormous Kamengo Crater along with all the wildlife views that come with it. After your lunch drive to the south of the Queen Elizabeth national park through the Ishasha sect where you will enjoy sightings of the endemic tree climbing lions as they rest in the old fig trees and acacia trees too. You may spot the hippos in the Ishasha River and buffaloes, leopards, kob and topees on the plains.
From this drive we shall proceed for dinner and overnight in Bwindi National Park at Gorilla Resort

Day 12: Gorilla Tracking at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
On day 12 after breakfast, we will embark on a journey through the misty impenetrable Bwindi forest for a more adventurous an exciting experience of Mountain Gorilla trekking. The tracking duration depends on the ease to see the gorillas that day ofcourse determined by the weather and their choice of movement as these giants are not restricted on movements around the forest. In the same breath though, you will spot other forest wildlife in these trails that may include the Black And White Colobus Monkeys, Red Tailed Colobus, Blue Monkey, L’hoests and baboons and many more.

After the gorilla experience, we shall retire for dinner and overnight at Gorilla Resort, Bwindi National park

Day 13 & 14: Lake Bunyonyi
After an early breakfast, you will leave Bwindi and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi via Kabale region which is commonly known as the Switzerland of Africa. Lake Bunyonyi is framed by lush, green-terraced hills that reach a height of 2,200-2,478m, but it’s the 29 islands of various shapes and sizes scattered across the water that make it most magical. It’s a sight that reinvents itself every hour or two with the ever-changing climate and direction of the sun. Lake Bunyonyi is a very spectacular destination with beautiful small Islands which are enclosed by steep terraced slopes. Bunyonyi is well known as a bird watchers paradise.

After breakfast on day 14, you will head out for a full day Bunyonyi Island tour. You will take a boat ride to the Islands while you look out for different bird species. It is believed that here each Island in Bunyonyi was named after its unique bird species that stay & breed on it. You will also get a chance to visit the Batwa community and then later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Bunyonyi overland Camp/Arcadia cottages/Bunyonyi Safari Resort.

Day 15 & 16: Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast, you will transfer to Lake Mburo National Park. Lake Mburo National Park is the only place where you can spot the impalas in Uganda, antelopes as well as the Elands. Although the park covers only 370km² it has 5 lakes within and it is home to 350 bird species as well as zebra, impala, eland, buffalo, oribi, Defassa waterbuck, leopard, hippo, hyena, topi and reed-buck.

Upon arrival, you will have lunch and then go for the afternoon boat ride on Lake Mburo. Remember to look out for different bird species and animals like Hippos, Crocodiles and more. Dinner and overnight stay at Mantana Luxury Tented Camp/Mihingo Lodge/UWA Bandas.

On the next morning (day 16) you will take a guided nature walk with in the Salt-licking area. Here you will find a well positioned wooden platform on which you will stand to have splendid view various animal species visiting the place to lick these salty soils. Look out for elephants, Buffaloes, Zebras, Impalas, Antelopes, Kobs and so many others. After this you will head for the horseback riding with in the Park. We’ll return in the evening for dinner and overnight stay at Mantana Luxury Tented Camp/Mihingo Lodge/UWA Bandas

Day 17: Transfer Back to Kampala
After breakfast, you will transfer back to Kampala with en route stop over at the Equator at Kayabwe for an informative explanation from the experts of the area as well as a phot opportunity that every tourist must have, surely you have seen these all over the web.
Later continue with your journey to Kampala arriving in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at Cassia Lodge/Imperial Royale Hotel/Kampala Serena Hotel

Day 18: Kampala City Tour & Departure
After breakfast, you will set out for the Kampala city tour where you will be able to visit tourist sites like Uganda Museum, Kasubi tombs, Namugongo Martyr’s shrine, Bahai Temple, National Theatre and so many others. Later you will be transferred to the Airport for your flight home.
