3 Day Gorilla Tracking Safari-Rwanda
Visit Volcanoes national park during this amazing gorilla tracking tour. You’ll also visit the grave of Dian Fossey, historical researcher on gorillas in Rwanda
DAY 1: Arrival, Kigali city tour , Transfer to Volcanoes National park
Your guide from vivid adventure safaris will warmly welcome you on your arrival at the Kigali international airport, have a meal with you and then transfer you to the Gisozi genocide museum plus a quick drive through at the art and craft shops so can do shopping. You will then travel to the Volcanoes National Park .This national park sits on a 160 sqkm area in the northern part of Rwanda and is part of the great Virunga volcano conservation region covering Virunga national park Congo and Mgahinga national park Uganda
DAY 2 : Dian Fossey tombs visit, Nature walk
After an early morning breakfast, you will visit the grave of Dian Fossey. Dian Fossey was an American primatologist and conservationist known for undertaking an extensive study of mountain gorilla groups from 1966 until her death in 1985 in the mountain forests of Rwanda. Her 1983 book, Gorillas in the Mist, combines her scientific study of the gorillas at Karisoke Research Center with her own personal story which was also adapted into a 1988 film of the same name. Called one of the foremost primatologists in the world, Fossey, along with Jane Goodall and Birutė Galdikas, were the so-called Trimates, a group of three prominent researchers on primates (Source-Wikipedia)
The trek to the site is quite spectacular, passing through bamboo forest and afro-montane habitats, criss-crossed trails with tracks of forest buffalo and elephant. You may see all sorts of wildlife as you make our way up and down to Karisoke, nestled between the volcanic peaks of Karisimbi and Visoke.
You’ll then head out for lunch at your lodge and if time permits, we can take an evening nature walk to the beautiful twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. Overnight and dinner at Hotel Muhabura.
DAY 3 : Gorilla trekking experience
After your breakfast at the lodge, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing about what to do while with the gorillas in the jungle. Porters are available for hire from as low as USD10. Be advised that the time taken searching for these mountain gorillas ranges between 2 to 7 hrs depending on the movement of the gorillas in their natural habitat but rest assured that you will be guided by a professional who will make sure you find as many of them in the shortest time possible.
At the end of your gorilla tracking tour, you will return to the lodge for late lunch, and refreshment after which we shall drive back to Kigali, dinner and overnight at the hotel of your choice in Kigali. Note that most hotels in kigali can organize your airport transfer the next day.
