5 Days primates adventure
DAY 1 : Arrival & transfer to Volcanoes National park
Upon arrival at the airport of your choice in Rwanda, a vivid adventure safaris guide will be waiting to transfer you to Kigali for a city tour starting at the Gisozi genocide memorial museum before proceeding to parc National des Volcans, home to mountain gorillas. This journey takes you through the beautiful terraced hills that characterize much of Rwanda’s landscape, dubbed the land of a thousand hills.
You will then settle in at the Mountain Gorilla view lodge for a briefing about your 5 day safari activities, dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 2 : Gorilla tracking : Life time event
After an early breakfast, we will assemble at the volcanoes national park headquarters with packed lunch and refreshments for a briefing about the Do’s and Don’ts while with the mountain gorillas. Depending on your level of fitness, you may be asked to choose the group you wish to track; some gorillas like to hideout on hills, thickets and rugged terrain which may be a daunting trek for some. Gorilla trekking is quite strenuous, so you should be able to hike for 2 – 8 hours on steep and slippery mountain trails.
We will return to the lodge for a rest & if you are fully energized by evening, we can have a cultural tour to nearby communities OR nature walk to the beautiful twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo.
DAY 3 & 4: Nyungwe Forest National park, Chimpanzee tracking, Monkeys, canopy walk
Nyungwe forest is a home to 13 primate species such as Chimpanzees, endangered Golden monkeys, Blue Monkeys , Colobus, red tailed monkeys and grey checked mangabeys. There are also about 300 bird species. On arrival, most likely in the evening, we shall relax as we wait for dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge. On day 4, we shall take early morning breakfast and enter Nyungwe forest for chimpanzee trekking. Along the trek, you will encounter other species of un-habituated Golden monkeys and Grey cheeked Mangabey, blue monkey, L,hoest’s monkey, and the Angolan colobus monkey.
Day 4 will also treat you to the world famous forest canopy walk. The Canopy Walkway, part of the Igishigishigi Trail, is a high suspension bridge with views over the valley and surrounding forests. A trail runs to the Kamiranzovu Marsh, with its birdlife, orchids and waterfall.
